Chasing the Late Summer Sun
Chasing the Late Summer Sun

These early September days are moving in slowly and languidly, golden soft lights smoothing out the sharp summer edges. Is this a gentle transition into shorter days, cooler nights with all the windows open, waking up with a sparkle of dew on the grass? Or is this a "false fall"? Let's hope for the former. A farmer's mantra - Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. (Such positivity!)
There are some advantages to the lingering summer temperatures. As we see pears and winter squash starting show up on market tables, we are still enjoying tomatoes, summer squash, peppers, eggplant. I often think they actually taste best, the roots have really had the time to grow deep down into the ground and seek out every bit of energy. This is the time to bottle up those super flavorful tomatoes for your hearty and comforting winter meals, maybe spaghetti and meatballs or tomato soup with a grilled cheese. We all have memories of that one soul-warming meal on a rainy and cold winter day.

Meet Foggy Dew Fungi
Have you had a delicious mushroom dish around town and wondered on what far away land are they grown? Here! Placer County! These are not just the button mushrooms we are used to seeing in the grocery stores. Each variety has it's own unique texture and taste. Foggy Dew Fungi is a father and son mushroom farm. A true collaboration of knowledge, deep respect for nature and foraging traditions. The mushrooms they produce reflects a shared passion with old-world wisdom.

Salad Mix!
I'm sure you are just as happy as we are to have Foothill Root's organic salad mix back again! Perfect for both late summer salads with tomatoes and cucumbers to fall salads with pears and nuts. Locally grown, clean and safe by some really great farmers.

Organic Pears!
Stillwater Orchards has been growing pears in Courtland since 1860! A true family farm. Placer County used to be one of the largest producers of pears, but very few pear trees are left. We are fortunate to offer Stillwater's organic Bartlett Pears now at the farmstand.

Melons of the Mediteranian
Did you know we share the same climate as Southern France? It's what allows us to grow classic French melon varieties that were only grown in small plots in the French countryside. The intense aroma leads you to pick out the perfect one.
